Bloomfield’s public school system will have to hire substitute teachers to fill in for newly elected state Representative Bobby Gibson. In a special election to fill a vacant seat of the 15th District Assembly seat on Tuesday, Gibson defeated Joe Suggs. Gibson is a public school teacher in the Bloomfield system.
In an email from Bloomfield public schools Human Resources Director William Joslyn:
We will work together with Mr. Gibson and the administration to develop a plan to ensure his students needs are met while allowing him as required by law (Conn. Gen Stat 2-3a) to perform his duties as a State Representative. This plan will look at scheduling , classroom support and coverage for students. It may entail substitute teachers or in house coverage.
The state statute reads:
