Romney increases lead with independents

Likely Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has opened a 10-point lead over President Barack Obama among unaffiliated voters, in the latest Politico-George Washington University poll.  Obama scored well among independents in 2008.   In the same poll, Romney leads Obama, 48 to 47 percent, among all voters.

The poll was released in the aftermath of President Obama officially launching his campaign over the weekend.  However, the President played to less than capacity crowds, leading political analysts to speculate more on the turnout than the President’s message.
