One week after President Barack Obama visited Afghanistan and said the Obama “surge” had worked to weaken the Taliban, two members of Congress are disputing that assertion. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Rep. Mike Rogers, R-MI, both said they believe the Taliban is gaining in strength.
Feinstein visited Afghanistan
Feinstein told CNN’s “State of the Union” that she saw the Taliban’s strength not only increase, but spread across the region, during her recent visit to Afghanistan. Rogers added he thought the administration’s announcement of a deadline for troop withdrawal has emboldened the Taliban, not weakened it.
